Whistler - Four Season Resort and Extreme Sports Mecca
“Sea to Sky adventures abound in Whistler. Regarded as one of the top four-season resorts in North America, Whistler has become even more world-renowned as the site of the Alpine and Nordic venues for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.” - Hello BC

Whistler Has So Many Things Going For It!
In the next days ahead, you have some tough decisions - not of what to do, but how many things can you do in this extreme sport Mecca. The two most popular activities are bungee jumping and zip trekking, although paint-ball and extreme mountain biking on the largest bike park in North America, are a close second. For those looking for less adrenaline induced activities, the lake and river canoeing and kayaking is gorgeous. Lost Lake Park has amazing trails to bike or hike, try Green Lake for a quick dip, or maybe just a day at the spa is in store for you. Shopping is a must in Whistler as all the high end fashion stores are found along the pedestrian mall. Whatever your choices, we know you will love Whistler – even if the FreeBird team beats you at mini golf under the lights in the mountain shadows!

Getting There from Golden
The trip from Golden to Whistler is the most “landscape diverse” on the FreeBird route. As we travel across the Province of British Columbia and through the Rocky Mountains, we pass through the Thompson River Valley to the Coastal Mountain Range. We will see ginseng farms, cattle ranches, fruit orchards, grasslands and even enter into the Northern tip of the Sonora Desert. Some of the towns we will travel through are Revelstoke and Sicamouse, and the rest of the Shushawp holiday and resort area. We make a roadside stop at a farmers Market in Salmon Arm where local fruits and vegetables are available for sample, as well as crafts and a cute little animal menagerie.
Kamloops – The Hub City
Kamloops is one of our main stops along the way. This city is famous for its rugged and vast landscapes, as well as being the “centre of everything”. At “Hub City” you will have time to check out the downtown core and Riverside Park. It has over 40 kms of paths along the Thompson River, with beaches and grass areas to soak up the sun. Have lunch at one of many fine local restaurants of your choice or grab it to go so you can enjoy it at the park.
The Journey to Whistler
As we leave the desert heat of Kamloops, we travel the up dizzying heights of Highway 99, along Garibaldi Provincial Park. We quickly descend through Pemberton Valley and on to our campground in Whistler. Staying alongside Fitzimmons Creek, the burgers go on the BBQ, and the costumes break out for our 80´s Party Club Night! It’s a great chance to walk through Whistler Blackcomb at night, and see all the locals at their best (or craziest at least!). The Flamming Jagger Bomb show from our favorite bartender will leave you breathless – even before you drink it!!
