Lake Louise – Camping in the Wilderness
The Lake Louise Campground will be our stop this evening. The Lake Louise Campground is a provincial campground in Banff National Park, a forested site on the banks of the Bow River. The campground is 1 km from the Village of Lake Louise and 4 km from the lake. Hiking and mountain biking trails leave the campground and wind their way throughout the area. Flush toilets, piped hot and cold water, showers, kitchen shelters, fire rings and firewood, recycling bins, food storage. Theater Programs are offered each night at campground theatre throughout the summer. Lake Louise is located in the middle of a wilderness area and as such is home to a variety of wildlife. To keep the wildlife and the Tourists at a safe distance from each other, a permanent electric fence has been built around the tenting area. The fence helps keep bears wild and alive, and people safer too. The evening is spent back at our “bear protected” camp along the Bow River, eating steaks and cooking “s'mores” around the campfire. Not sure what a “s'more” is? Guess you'll have to join FreeBird Adventures to find out!

Here is Travel Alberta’s take on Lake Louise:
“View the majestic Victoria Glacier nestled behind beautiful Lake Louise, known as the "Jewel of the Rockies". As a ski destination, Lake Louise is internationally renowned, but during summer it is also home to some of the best hiking & biking trails in the Rockies. At an elevation of 1,536m (5,039 ft), Lake Louise is the starting point of the most scenic highway in Canada, the Icefields Parkway.”

Lake Louise - Mountain Scenery and Awesome Hiking Trails
Lake Louise offers some of the most beautiful mountain scenery, the best Canadian hiking trails, and the most breathtaking glaciers. Here in the UNESCO Heritage Site of Banff National Park, the FreeBird team takes you up to Lake Moraine hiking trails to view the Valley of the Ten Peaks, and up to Lake Louise to see the world’s most photographed hotel - Chateau Lake Louise. Activities you can choose from are horseback riding and canoeing, as well as the option of heading out for a day trip to Emerald Lake and Takkakaw Falls. Or, spend the day back in Banff Townsite, shopping and checking out the local scenery. Our afternoon is spent gazing at the enormous glaciers and stunning lakes as we drive up the Icefields Parkway. We stop at the Icefields Centre, home of Columbia Icefields where you have the option to drive on top of Athabasca Glacier in a huge Brewster Snow Coach or breathe some crisp mountain air while walking on the toe of the glacier.
